Our Projects

The UN states on its website that, 'Civil society is the third pillar of governance along with the government, and the private sector.'

The future of The Bahamas will depend on whether or not civil society takes its rightful place at the table with the Government and the Private Sector to participate in the governance of the country.

We are involved in several projects that will help strengthen civil society and bring us closer to this vision.

Electoral Reform

We are advocating for electoral reform - An independent Boundaries Commission, Accompanying enumeration of voters, Campaign Finance Reform and Member of Parliament Recall.

Self-Regulation

We are developing a self-regulation initiative to promote a set of values for Civil Society, to influence the governance, behaviours and practices of Civil Society Organisations.

CSO Directory

We are establishing a CSO Directory as part of the Mapping exercise to help generate awareness of the diversity of civil society to potential volunteers, directors and donors.

CSO Bill

We advocated for the enactment of the Non-Profit Organisation Act, 2019 and its subsequent amendments. We are continuing to advocate for an advisory council.

Information Service

Step 2 of self-regulation will involve creating an information service where participating Civil Society Organisations will be encouraged to publish a set of data that is relevant to accountability and transparency.

CSB Strategic Plan

We have drafted a 3 Year Strategic Plan that will help Civil Society Bahamas strengthen the Civil Society sector and execute its mandate for the sector.

Mapping Civil Society

We are surveying Civil Society Organisations in The Bahamas to ascertain the size, diversity and the strength of the sector for future strengthening exercises.
